Invisalign

Do you want straight, beautiful teeth without the inconvenience of metal braces? Invisalign® is a state-of-the-art orthodontic system that adult patients of all ages use to straighten their teeth. At Lake Marion Dental Care, we.

Dr. Michael Nelson has been Invisalign-certified since 2009 and offers Invisalign as an innovative alternative to traditional braces that have helped improve the smiles of countless patients. Invisalign uses clear aligners to straighten crooked or uneven teeth more comfortably and discreetly than traditional braces.

What Are Invisalign Clear Aligners?

Invisalign uses custom-made, clear aligner trays to reposition teeth and correct malocclusion.

Invisalign can correct:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites
  • Uneven spacing and gaps
  • Crowded teeth

Patients wear the trays in a series that are customized to move teeth into the correct position sequentially. When patients switch to the next set of aligners, they may notice how their bite gradually aligns into a natural position. Treatment time varies per patient, and your dentist will discuss your oral health needs in more detail during an Invisalign consultation.

Advantages of Invisalign

Adults and teenagers often prefer using Invisalign clear aligners to metal braces because of the low-profile solution they provide. Patients with minor malocclusions use this innovative orthodontic system to gradually and discreetly straighten their teeth. Having straight teeth offers several benefits, including easier oral hygiene and improved confidence.

Here are some other benefits of using Invisalign:

Clear and Comfortable – Invisalign clear aligners are made from smooth, BPA-free plastic that fits snugly over the teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is virtually invisible and gentle on the mouth’s soft tissues.

Removable and Convenient – Invisalign is removable, allowing patients to eat and drink without limitations.

Better Oral Hygiene — Because patients can remove Invisalign, it’s much easier to practice thorough oral hygiene by removing plaque and bacteria buildup with brushing and flossing. Oral hygiene isn’t more challenging with traditional orthodontics.

Faster Treatment — Invislalign’s average treatment lasts 12-18 months, though this depends greatly on the patient’s needs. Treatment with traditional braces typically takes at least 24 months.

Fewer Dental Appointments — Patients wear Invisalign in a series of trays, and there are fewer required appointments for adjustments.

Wearing Invisalign

During the first few days of treatment, you will notice pressure on your teeth;  this is expected as the aligners gradually reposition your teeth. You should wear your trays for 22 hours each day to get the desired outcome. However, if the pain or discomfort persists, speak with your dentist.

First-time Invisalign users may notice their speech changes slightly, or they have a lisp. But it’s important to remember, the more you wear your trays, the better your mouth can accommodate them and the faster you’ll be able to speak clearly again.
